SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
JOHN R. ZAVODSKY STUDENT ACTIVISM SCHOLARSHIP
John R. Zavodsky (1930-2019) During John Zavodsky's 33-year teaching career he became very active in the Evergreen Education Association adn the Washington Education Association and served as President of the EEA three different times. During his leadership in 1973, he and two fellow teachers spent the summer in jail in the first teacher's strike in the state of Washington.
(1) ONE SCHOLARSHIP IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000.00 WILL BE AWARDED TO AN EVERGREEN DISTRICT STUDENT WHO HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN ACTIVISM.
Nominations can be made by HS counselors or any active member of the EEA. Completed applications are due April 14, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
FRED ENSMAN/VIRGINIA OLIVER EEA DEPENDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
The Ensman/Oliver EEA Dependent Scholarships are awarded to dependents of EEA members in good standing. Scholarships are awarded to those who have shown academic excellence, involvement in school community, financial need, and written communications.
(16) SIXTEEN SCHOLARSHIPS IN THE AMOUNT OF $500.00 WILL BE AWARDED TO DEPENDENTS OF EEA MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING IN 2023.
Fred Ensman (1942-1989) was an Educator and leader in the Evergreen Education Association who was instrumental in the sucess of the 1973 strike. He taught at Wy'east, Cascade and Covington Middle Schools.
Virgina Oliver was a longtime educator in the Evergreen School District. She was active in the Evegreen Education Association, at one time, serving as President. She also served on the Uniserv Executive Committee and as a Director for the Washington Education Association. She was also the spokesperson for the 1973 strike.
